Minutes of the Parish Council meeting for West Ashby Parish Council held on Wednesday 20th May 2026 in West Ashby Village Hall.
Those councillors present were Cllrs R Atkin House, G Edwards, T Thomas, N Moore, and A Radcliffe. Also present clerk Mrs K Elliott and C Cllr N Oliver.
The meeting commenced with the public forum at 7.30 pm.
PUBLIC FORUM: Those present discussed the presence of rabbit holes at the cemetery and a request from a neighbour to take action to fill in these holes. This was granted.
Annual Parish Council Meeting
2026/001 Election of Chairman and Vice Chairman
It was proposed that Mr C Graves continues as Chair, proposed and seconded.
It was proposed that Mr Atkin House continues as Vice Chair, proposed and seconded.
2026/002 Responsible Finance Officer – It was proposed, seconded and unanimously agreed that the clerk remains as RFO for the council.
Meeting
2026/003 Chairman’s remarks - Mr Atkin House welcomed everyone to the meeting.
2026/004 Apologies – Have been received from C Graves and L Hebden plus D Cllr D Simpson.
2026/005 Declarations of interest – There were none.
2026/006 The notes of the meeting held on 18th March 2026 were proposed, seconded, voted and RESOLVED as a true and accurate record.
2026/007 Reports from District & County Councillors: D Cllr Simpson has sent apologies for this meeting. C Cllr Oliver arrived at 8.20pm and Highways matters were discussed along with the Local Government Review. A county Councillors grant should be available for applications in July.
2026/008 Clerk’s report on matters outstanding and correspondence
a) Defib – the clerk advised that quotes are between £775 and £1100. Grant funding is to be sought by the clerk and requests for donations are to be sought from residents.
b) Anglian Water – Nothing more to add. It is noted that a short road closure is to take place 3rd to 5th June for essential drainage works. Also noted here was a report from Cllr Graves about the Ward Walk meeting with Highways. It is also noted that a number of potholes on Church Lane have been repaired.
c) Insurance – Renewal is approved and copy documents are to be sent to all councillors.
2026/009 Cemetery: It is noted that we have a lots of mole hills and rabbit holes at the cemetery. Mr Thomas is to be asked if he can help with this problem. He is a qualified Pest Controller.
The bench is to be installed when the Chairman returns from his holiday.
2026/010 Events 2026 – Maybe we can have a meet the councillor’s event once the pub is open.
2026/011 Highways matters – this has been covered earlier by the Ward Walk report given on behalf of the Chairman.
2026/012 Planning Matters: There are no planning applications currently.
2026/013 Policies – All appropriate policies have been reviewed and amended as necessary.
2026/014 AGAR – The Annual Statement of Accounts was presented and resolved, the AGAR forms were also presented, resolved and signed. The Internal Audit has been carried out and the notice of public rights has been displayed and published.
2026/015 Finance Matters, to approve payments and to note income since last meeting. The clerk circulated a document containing all payments and income since the last meeting plus bank balances.
a) Invoice payments – as per the circulated list of payments. There are no payments to be made currently.
b) It was proposed and resolved to move £3,500 to the savings account.
c) There are no clerk’s expenses currently.
2026/016 Next Meeting
a) The next parish council meeting will be held on Wednesday 15th July 2026.
b) Items for the next newsletter – as soon as possible to RAH please.
